Sadly, another weekend is coming to an end, having gone by much too quickly.
Yesterday, David and I spent much of the day assembling a Christmas gift. It started off as a real pain, but it got easier as we went along. Glad to have that behind us and here’s to being able to hide it until Christmas. I spent some time in the afternoon at one of my favorite salons where Kelly did my make up for the big night out. They were wondering why I hadn’t made an appointment for my hair as well, but that was cleared up once I arrived in my scarf. I did opt to wear my wig to the party (first time in about 6 weeks) and went for a simple black and white dress. It wasn’t as dressy as what I usually wear each year, but given what I was working with, it was fine. I made attempts at an emerald green cocktail dress but the seromas under my armpits were really not very attractive, and I couldn’t trust myself to keep my arms down by my sides all evening. 🙂
We did have a lovely time: drinks with friends before the party, a great dinner at the Stroudsmoor, and then dancing afterwards. I allowed myself two small glasses of wine with dinner, but otherwise drank cranberry & orange juice. It was refreshing, and actually looked like a fufu drink. It was great to see all of David’s coworkers, many who have become my friends over the years. They have been so supportive of us the past few months, and continued to demonstrate that support and genuine concern at the party.
It was different being totally sober at this party, where we usually enjoy ourselves with abandon (our one time per year) and spend the night there. It was a completely different perspective, and the one dance I agreed to was odd without the freeing effects of a few drinks. I really didn’t miss the alcohol, as I still enjoyed the company of some great people, but the dancing pretty much wiped me out for the night. I really lack the stamina these days for “Shook Me All Night Long”! As designated driver for the night, I drove and we got home a little before 1 a.m. Certainly not a crazy night, but definitely a long day for me. I was pretty pooped all day Sunday!
And like every Sunday it seems, today flew by. We got a lot done around the house and I think I’m down to under 10 gifts to wrap (assuming no more gifts get purchased…).
Tomorrow it’s back to work and I am looking forward to being back in the office for a 4-day work week.
