Today I got to attend the 6th annual Ladies in Pink Party. This event, in memory of Michele Zini, is a way to celebrate Michele’s life, and does a lot of good by raising breast cancer awareness, as well as raising funds to help those dealing with breast cancer and to create a memorial scholarship in Michele’s memory. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I talked my posse of girlfriends into attending this with me, but an afternoon with the girls for a good cause had to be fun, right?
I was not disappointed. First, my hats off to the planning committee! I was truly impressed. With almost 450 women in attendance, I was amazed at the energy in the room, along with all of the gift baskets, raffles, silent auction items, and vendors. Clearly, you have all been very busy! I loved the photo booth and look forward to sharing the photo of table #31 as soon as it is available. What fun! (I mean, we got my mom in a crazy hat!!!) The food was great, the guest speaker an inspiration, and the activities a hoot! For the video that is about to be posted on Facebook of me trying to do a line dance, I feel it is ok for me to play the chemo card. I trust that any viewers will be gentle in their criticisms!
But nothing prepared me for being acknowledged as a 2012 recipient of this organization, and I was deeply touched by the nomination by Michele’s sister, Linda. While I was friends with their brother, Wayne, before he too passed away too soon from cancer, I never met Linda in person before today. (Ok, we may have met briefly at Wayne’s wedding a really long time ago…) I cannot tell you my surprise to have been recognized in this way, and in part because of this blog. Excerpts of my blog were read, and I was presented with a gorgeous bouquet of roses. Words cannot adequately express my gratitude for such an act of kindness. Thank you, Linda!
And my thanks as well to my girls, for your standing ovation. I am unworthy of such a gesture, and I love you all more than I can say! Mom, Sandy, Miranda, Theresa, Michelle, Leann, Lori, Karen, Maria, Lyn and Janet, you are the best!!! And let’s start thinking about what we’re wearing next year!!!
