Today is my first day home alone. Ethan has gone back to school after the long weekend, and David and I agreed I was good enough for him to return to work. I’ll need his days off for future appointments, so it seemed silly to burn one today. I am feeling pretty good, outside of a wicked headache. Tylenol and an ice pack have helped that a bit.
My exciting to-do list for the day looks something like this:
- Epsom salt bath and shower. Check.
- Make follow up appointment with Dr. Farrell. Check.
- Blog. In progress.
- Remove waterproof bandages. Check.
- Make homemade hummus for lunch. Up next.
- Nap. After lunch.
- Watch “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” on the virtues of juicing. Check.
- Attempt juicing for the first time.
- Find a site on how to wear scarves. Check.
- Finish thank you cards.
I’m stuck between not feeling strong enough to do anything, but not feeling badly enough to just sit around. Thank goodness for Netflix!
It was great seeing Ethan after the long weekend. He was surprised to see me hanging out in my pj’s in the middle of the afternoon and said, after a long pause, that I looked… “comfortable”. He questioned this morning if I would be spending another day in my pajamas and raised an eyebrow when I said yes! He did a great job of being careful around my surgical area, with gentle hugs, and he yelled from the bus stop “get well soon, Mom!”
As I mentioned above, I did remove the waterproof bandages over my incisions, revealing about 11 steri-strips on each side. Dr. Farrell had indicated that it took the body two days to waterproof the incision itself, so I was instructed to remove those bandages today. I needed to re-bandage the drain incisions, as they were still leaking a bit. I still have a bit of swelling, but my new best friends, my ice packs, are helping with that. Under the armpits still feels like I’ve received a few shots of Novacaine, feeling a little numb.
Well, my to-do list is waiting for me! Off to make hummus!
