I completed my 7th radiation today. Seven doesn’t sound like much in the grand scheme of 35, but my husband said “20%” and suddenly I felt better. Twenty sounds much nicer than seven! Point of view is everything. :)
I’m not really complaining, mind you. So far, radiation has been a breeze. I started my new schedule today, arriving a few minutes early, and I was actually back in my car only two minutes after my original appointment time. They are on the ball there, for sure.
Yesterday, I spent some time talking to a coworker who returned to work this week after being out about 4 months. She was dealing with a recurrence of breast cancer and the second time with chemo hit her pretty hard. It was nice, however, to have someone to commiserate with. We were able to laugh about hair loss (and its mysterious failure to return), compare stories about funky side effects, and encourage each other to take care of ourselves. It was interesting to learn that she, too, is looking to natural/holistic means to get healthier. I think she might even be taking more supplements than I am! We promised to remind each other what’s important from time to time, when stress can get a bit out of hand. If nothing else, cancer sure brings perspective.
I am looking forward to a nice long weekend (no, I do not get off from radiation on Monday). My older brother and family are also coming to visit, and I can’t wait for quality time with the whole gang!
Proportions are usually better to look at. I might have just taken too many statistic classes but I think it is true. I recently showed your page to my husbands cousin who has just been diagnosed and she finds it inspirational.
Thanks, Joanne! I’m glad it helps. I’d be happy to chat with her if she wants.
I will let her know. She only had a lumpectomy but the hormone receptor news is not good so she will do chemo and radiation.
