Today was my “dry run” at the radiologist (which obviously wasn’t at midnight). :) It was pretty quick and painless. My first visit to this particular office was pleasant, and I was impressed with how friendly the staff was. I was also impressed with the fact that I got a little card with a bar code so I can check myself in! No waiting in line! As a technologist of sorts, the technology made me happy.
I no sooner had my Kindle “fired” up (get it? Kindle Fire…) when they called my name. I had to change into a hospital gown. I sat down again after changing, starting reading again, and they called me back. Gee, I hope it’s that fast all the time!!
Today was pretty much “pictures” and calibrating of the machines. I got instructions for care of my skin (no shaving, no perfumes/lotions/creams/etc, no hot/cold, no scratching, no tight-fitting clothing (no need to worry about that one!), no tape/band-aids. Easy enough. They even gave me some special deodorant to use.
They were very accommodating in terms of my short term schedule. They agreed to come back from lunch early to squeeze me in a few of the days when my preferred time was not available. Starting on 2/15, I should be safely ensconced in the 3:30 time slot. This will allow me to work all day and head to treatment right after.
The longest part of the visit was waiting for paperwork I needed to sign, which I then learned I had signed at my initial visit. But again, everyone was super nice and I am hoping that helps the time fly by.
Happy 53rd Anniversary to my Mom & Dad!
I just met with the radiation oncologist yesterday – unless the other radiation oncologist gives me a different opinion I should start radiation in about 5 weeks. I will be closely following your progress. Good luck!
Good luck, Robin! I’m keeping up with your progress also! I hope you are doing well!
